Heritage Volunteers

The Arts Society Heritage Volunteers are teams of committed non-specialist volunteers who work under the guidance of curators and other professionals to help conserve our heritage. They undertake projects for:

  • Museums
  • National Trust Properties
  • Historic Houses
  • Libraries
  • Gardens

They give their time to care for collections, record documents and act as guides and stewards.

CURRENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:

Guiding and stewarding at Shaw’s Corner, Ayot St Lawrence

A NEW PROJECT FOR VOLUNTEERS, AT SHAW'S CORNER, AYOT ST. LAWRENCE

  • We have an opportunity for our Heritage Volunteers to increase their range of work at Shaw’s Corner – the home of the playwright George Bernard Shaw.
  • The house will be closed over winter for essential conservation/research work and is due to open at Easter next year.
  • Volunteers are needed from October to March to help with various jobs – e.g. cataloguing and checking the house contents, researching old photographs, cleaning precious objects, inputting data etc.
  • On completion of the work volunteers may then like to use the knowledge they have gained to assist with guiding in the house and garden, or even join in with summer play reading.
  • This will be an exciting, ongoing project for TASHE and will be of interest to all who wish to learn more about early 20th century life and the work of George Bernard Shaw.
  • Training and support will be given by the enthusiastic staff of Shaw’s. Training can also be supplied by The Arts Society, London

NEWS FLASH: Shaw’s Corner is currently looking for someone with sewing experience to help them make a patchwork wall hanging
