Heritage Volunteers

The Arts Society Heritage Volunteers give their time to care for collections, record documents and act as guides and stewards.

They are committed non-specialist volunteers who work under the guidance of curators and other professionals to help conserve our heritage. They work in:

  • Museums
  • National Trust Properties
  • Historic Houses
  • Libraries
  • Gardens

The Arts Society Harpenden Evening is currently working at Shaw’s Corner in Ayot St Lawrence – the home of the playwright George Bernard Shaw, now owned by the National Trust.

Shaw's Corner, like all National Trust properties, is currently closed because of COVID-19. Conservation work continues behind the scenes, while the garden is undergoing a transformation. Volunteer work is very limited at present, but we hope normal visitor and volunteer activity will be restored in due course.

Work at Shaw’s Corner is an exciting, ongoing project for TASHE and will be of interest to all who wish to help preserve a time capsule of early 20th century life, while learning about and helping to preserve the work of George Bernard Shaw. The National Trust is the biggest conservation charity in Europe and new volunteers are always welcome.
